Translating research into policy and practice.
We are home to innovative research programs and nationally recognized leaders in the field of disabilities. Our faculty, staff and students engage in diverse research activities, many of which are integrated into community service projects—creating a direct link between research and real-world practice. We collaborate with partners at the community, state, national and international levels to address unique needs across Illinois and beyond. Our applied research focuses on deepening understanding of disabilities, developing and testing model programs, and translating findings into effective policy and practice.

We work in close collaboration and mutual support with programs and centers within the UIC Department of Disability and Human Development to advance research, training, community service and the dissemination of knowledge that benefits people with disabilities. Together, we foster community engagement, support research and training grants, provide clinical services, and strengthen connections across state, national and international networks. We’re also deeply committed to supporting students through scholarships, internships and professional networking opportunities.
